Outbound Phone Calls

Voxeo's CCXML phone-handling software is US-centric. In order to make phone calls from P2006 to the PSTN, I use the following conventions:

(a) For calls to the US, destPhone is "tel:17735551212". "1" is the US Country Code.

(b) For calls outside the US, destPhone is "sip:CCxxxxxxxx@sip.example.com", where "CC" is the country code, xxxxx is the telephone number, and sip.example.com is my VoIP provider's address.

NOTES:

  • I use the "out of country" form of the phone number, of course. E.g., when dialing the UK, I do not include the "0" that precedes UK regional codes.
  • You should be able to dial from SIP Phone to the country you wish to reach. It's a good way to experiment to determine if you have the right dialstring.
  • You may find yourself fiddling around with the exact format your SIP provider uses. My SIP provider does not want international access codes, or even the "+" symbol; it looks at the Country Code in each and every number. If I'm not careful, a call to my local 773 area code ends up who-knows-where...
